DIY: Butcher Block Sofa Console Table

Be prepared to have your mind blown! This DIY console table took me 10 minutes to build and saved us hundreds of dollars! Fancy-shmancy companies sell practically the same table, but half the size (4.75ft), for $800-1,000. We made our 8ft console table for $445! Side note, the same table could also be done in 4-6ft wide for $300-400. Honestly, it’s kind of silly how easy it was!

DIY Instructions:

  1. Bought the prettiest Acadia butcher block Home Depot had to offer. Link to product- HARDWOOD REFLECTIONS Acacia 8 ft. L x 25 in. D x 1.5 in. T Butcher Block Countertop in Clear Lacquer-HDACAEG1525-98 – The Home Depot
  2. Found a pair of heavy duty black iron legs that were tall enough (28″) to comfortably sit at but not higher than couch on Amazon for $85. Link to product- Metal Table Legs Heavy Duty Square Tube Iron Desk Legs Set of 2 28” Height 18” Wide Industrial Furniture Legs, Dining Table Legs, Modern Coffee Table Legs – – Amazon.com
  3. Measured 10″ in from each end of the butcher block, centered and leveled the legs.
  4. Marked the holes, predrilled about .5-.75 of an inch down (this is important so the wood won’t crack), then drilled in 1.5 inch screws.

That’s it! Kind of silly right?!

The ottomans are by Threshold & Studio McGee found at your local Target (Link- Lynwood Square Upholstered Cube – Threshold™ Designed With Studio McGee : Target). I love the extra seating the table provides… not to mention warmth, pattern, and interest from the grain and live edge of the wood. The girls and I will often have our breakfast at the table together while they watch their morning cartoon. 🙂

Nifty DIY Alternative Options:

You could also do this DIY for a desk, entryway/hallway console, end tables, night stands, or even floating shelves. You’d just cut the board to length and order legs (or brackets for the shelves) appropriate to the design (shorter for end tables and night stands). Amazon has a ton of different leg styles to choose from! I recommend to make sure anything you buy online is rated well. If it doesn’t have ratings or it’s not rated well I always move on.

Hope the easiness of this DIY blew your mind and your googling ‘butcher block near me’ in a side tab!
